IBM Solution Center Kiosk
Role: Lead Designer
The interactive kiosk provides IBM Global Solution Center visitors with a self-discovery element within an existing gallery space. The kiosk showcases information and highlights various global initiatives, technological advancements and research being implemented by IBM within various global markets. The information provided within the kiosks informs visitors of IBM’s high priority industries and demonstrates how their products are contributing to global change.
The attract screen showcases a grid of looping dynamic imagery, video, and lead-in statements that focus on ‘high priority’ IBM industries. Pop-up menus located within the lower navigation bar allow the user to view content within IBM ‘Industries’, ‘Strategic Initiatives’ and ‘Building a Smarter Planet’ categories. The user can also access content by selecting the rectangles on the grid, allowing for multiple ways to access content.
KIOSK NAVIGATION – IBM HIGH PRIORITY INDUSTRIES
The image grid displays various high priority IBM industries. A user can click on the Industries tab and select ‘Insurance’ from the pop-up menu. Users can also select an industry by touching one of categories within the rectangles.
When the ‘Industries’, ‘Strategic Initiatives’ or ‘Building a Smarter Planet’ option is selected from the pop-up menu, the content within the grid changes to reflect that specific solution area. Accessible content can include, video, PDF, case study documents, or additional information screens. The specific solution area title is also indicated in the left corner above the grid. The user selects a video from the solution area grid.

The video opens to full screen and the user can watch the video. The user can select the ‘Back’ button on the lower navigation bar to return to the previous screen.
KIOSK NAVIGATION – SOLUTION AREA
From the attract screen, users can explore content by selecting the lead-in statements on the content grid. Here, the user selects the statement “The way to more robust healthcare”.
After the user selects the statement “The way to more robust healthcare”, content and information related to “Enterprise Health Analytics” is displayed.
The user selects “Helping a world of mobile devices play the same program”.
After the user selects the statement “Helping a world of mobile devices play the same program”, content and information related to “Smarter Content Distribution” is displayed.
KIOSK NAVIGATION – SMARTER PLANET INITIATIVE OVERVIEW
When selecting ‘Building a Smarter Planet’ from the lower navigation bar, the grid populates with dynamic Smarter Planet icons.
Touching an icon reveals a provocative statement or question, from here, the viewer can access informative content or relevant video.
The video opens to full screen and the user can watch the video.
At any point during the user’s interaction with the kiosk, they can select the Concierge button located on the lower navigation bar.
Once the Concierge button is selected, the content grid populates with helpful information and tools such as; lists of area hotels and restaurants, a map of the IBM Global Solution Center and surrounding areas, as well as weather information.
Once a category from the left column menu is selected, in this case Restaurants, a map is displayed and near-by restaurants are pin-pointed. By selecting one of the “call outs” on the map, the user can link to the restaurant’s website and access additional information about the establishment.
